Council of Nicaea
325 CE. The council which determined whether Jesus was the same substance as God or just similar.
Council of Chalcedon
Determined that Jesus was composed of both manhood and Godhood. This created divide between East and West Rome.
Greek vs Latin Rome
Greek rome was in the east, and Latin in the west. Greek Easterns spoke greek, and believed in Orthodoxy. Latin Westerners were catholics.

Eastern Orthodox Christian.

Eastern Orthodox Christians went on missions to Slavic people in Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria and Serbia.
Factors that led to the decline of Christianity from 500-950
The fall of the Roman empire. The rise of Islam.
The Beginning of the Crusades
It began as a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. After the Turks took it over, it became hard for them to be pilgrims. So they fought.
First Crusade
Christians wanted to overthrow Muslims in the Holy Land. 1095 CE
Inquisitions
Periods of time after the crusades when Christians were killing or excommunicating other Christians whom they thought were heretics.
Arianism
A Christian belief system that does not believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ.
Cathars
They were believed to be associated with Arianism and feminist thought, they were persecuted during inquisitions.
Waldensian Movement
A group of Christians who preached apostolic poverty who was persecuted during an inquisition.
