Week 5 - Content Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is the Bradford Assay?
Uses chemical dye (Coomassie Blue) which interacts with proteins and changes colour dependant on the concentration of proteins in the sample.
What is the dye used in the Bradford assay?
Coomassie Blue
What technique is used alongside the Bradford Assay to determine the concentration of proteins?
Spectroscopy
What does the blue colour in the Bradford Assay show
How concentrated the proteins are, the bluer the more concentrated.
What are randomised controlled trials?
Where participants are randomly assigned to different groups to test the effect of an intervention, aiming to establish cause and effect relationship.
What is a double blind randomised control trial?
Both the researcher and participants are unaware of what groups they have been placed in, aim is to prevent placebo effect.
What is the placebo effect?
Improvement in patients condition after receiving sham or fake treatment.
What is a placebo?
A sham or fake form of what is being offered.
