1) August 480 BCE, 10 yrs after Darius I lost Battle of Marathon, his son Xerxes set out to conquer most Greek territory

2) Xerxes told Greeks to surrender their weapons. Greeks defied him and Leonidas Kind of Sparta said ‘come and get them’

3) Xerxes set out for Athens. Huge army, had to push thru rocky pass at Thermopylae. Greece’ eastern coast.

4) huge Greek army blocking the area of Thermopylae. Xerxes’s army= held back by greeks 3 days long

5) greek traitor showed Persians a mountain route from where they could attack Greeks from the front and back.
