No, Aboriginal people do not automaticallly become an Elder once they are old. Elders need to earn respect and authority by showing understanding and dedication to the community.

A

Th Elders taught the younger people about bush tucker and bush medicine, and they taught the Dreaming through songs and stories.

The Elders would also lead initiation ceremonies for young people. They would also discuss amongst eachother to settle disputes in the community

Marriage had to be between man and woman of different totems/moiety.

A

They celebrated the ceremonies by:

  • Music and dancing

-Special face and body paintings

-Smoking of leaves to ward off evil spirits and give good fortune to the newly wedded couple.
