Q

Which dog breeds are predisposed to paragangliomas? (2)

A
  • The aetiology of carotid and aortic body tumours is unknown, but genetic predisposition aggravated by chronic hypoxia may account for the higher risk of certain brachycephalic breeds, such as the Boxer and Boston Terrier.
  • Chronic hypoxia - overstimulate chemoreceptor organs -> inc in tumours

Q

Clinical signs displayed with paragangliomas (3)

A

Carotid and aortic bodies can initiate an increase in the depth, minute volume, and rate of respiration, as well as result in an increased heart rate and elevated arterial blood pressure.
