Fermentation (easy) Flashcards

1
Q

Ethanol Fermentation

and what are the waste products of ethanol fermentation

A

After glycolysis the two pyruvates lose a carbon atom that combines with oxygen to create Co2. After this the pyruvate turns into Acetaldehyde, then Acetaldehyde receives a H from NADH allowing it to go back to Glycolysis to aid more production of ATP.

Q

Lactic Acid Fermentation

A

After glycolosis, unlike Ethanol, Lactate/Lactic Acid does not lose and carbon atom but just gains an H atom which makes the pyruvate turn into Lactate/lactic acid. This Lactate can be converted back into pyruvate in the liver. then the pyruvate can enter krebs to proceed CR

Q

are the amount of NAD+ limited in anaerobic pathwayhs?

A

yes and therefore this is significant because it makes NAD+ recycled and reused to process CR
