  1. Infection: viral, bacterial fungal, parasitic
  2. Congestive cardiac failure
  3. Infiltration: primary and secondary (e.g. neuroblastoma) tumours
  4. Storage: Fat - cystic fibrosis, glycogen storage diseases
  5. Idiopathic

  1. Infection: malaria
  2. Haematological: hereditary spherocytosis, sickle cell (reduces over time).
  3. Extramedullary haemopoesis: thallassaemia
  4. Portal Hypertension
  5. Neoplastic
