Why?

A

Cause by same chickenpox virus (Varicella Zoster)
Rash suddenly appear
Vaccination req (Shingrix 2 dose,given 2 to 6 months apart)

Symptoms?

A

Red pimple
Burning feeling,Itchy
Painfull appears on one side chest and back,
Can also affect one of your legs or one side of your face

Treatment?

A

A childhood vaccine for chicken pox is helpful to prevent shingle for letter life.
Vaccine available above 50 yrs and funded for 65+. If risk of zoster can be given to age 18 yrs olds.
Treatment is on Prescription antiviral so refer to GP (OTC antiviral cream is not effective)
Paracetamol given for pain management

Self Care?

A

Keep the area clean and dry.
A damp cool cloth on the affected area may relieve itchiness and pain.
Wear loose clothing to reduce friction/rubbing of the blisters.
Do not scratch blisters – scratching can cause scarring.
Avoid contact immuno-compromised people

Red flag?

A

Shingles on face may lead to complications involving the eye, including blindness.
it can also lead to pneumonia (lung infection), hearing problems, or brain inflammation.
