Adaptations Flashcards
What are the adaptations of trees in TRF
buttress roots - support, thich, waxy leaves with drip tips - repels water and runs off, smooth thin bark - water runs off,
What are the 4 layers of a TRF and adaptations
shrub layer, under canopy - large leaves for sun absorption, canopy, emergents - only branches at the top
How have some animals adapted to the TRF
strong limbs - climbing, suction cups - climbing, short pointy wings - dodge trees, camouflage - hide from predators, nocturnal, good sense of smell and hearing - low light levels, swim - river channels
How are plants adapted to hot deserts
long root system - reach deep water, shallow root system - catch rain water, thick waxy skin - prevent water loss, small leaves - reduce water evaporating, spines - stop being eaten
How are animals adapted to hot deserts
nocturnal - cooler at night, large amounts of fat - break down into water, minimise water loss - sweat and urine, long eyelashes - no sand, big feet - doesn’t sink into sand
