rodent
Taenia taeniaeformis is a feline tapeworm
FH of Tenia taeniaeformis
cats
Location of Tenia taeniaeformis
IH: liver
FH: SI
morphology Tenia taeniaeformis
Up to 60 cm, scolex with 4 suckers, rostellum with 2 rows of 30-40 hooks
LC of Tenia taeniaeformis
- Adult taenia are attached to SI of FH. Mature egg-containing proglottids are released and shed in feces.
- Eggs are released from proglottids and ingested by IH
- oncosphere hatch from the egg & migrate through the liver tissue to encyst in the peritoneal membranes
- Ocosphere develop into Strobilocercus fasciolaris
- FH ingest infected IH with Strobilocercus fasciolaris
- Attach to SI mucosa and mature to adults
Pathogenesis / CS of Tenia taeniaeformis
IH: migrating larvae cause liver damge, formation of strobilocercus, hepatic fibrosis, necrosis or inflammation around cysts
FH: usually asymptomatic. mild irritation of intestinal mucosa, mild enteritis, soft stool or intermittent diarrhea, poor coat condition or slightly weight loss, proglottids visible in feces/around anus.
