Small – only 4-9 segments. Scolex: 80-90 small hooks in 3-6 rows. Suckers have 4-5 rows of hooks
Pathogenesis of Davainea proglottina
Most pathogenic. Damage on intestinal mucosa with their heavily armed scolex.
Parasites deep embedded between villi of duodenum.
Causing necrosis and hemorrhagic inflammation.
CS of Davainea proglottina
Weight loss, rapid breathing, dry and ruffled feathers, necrotic, hemorrhagic enteritis, can be fatal

Coprological, post-mortem: adult tapeworms in intestine

Praziquantel, Niclosamide

- Gravid segments of the adult tapeworms are released after 13 days in the chicken’s intestine – Eggs are released into the environment.
- Slugs or snails ingest the tapeworm eggs, and the cysticercoids develop inside for
26-28 days. - The chickens eats the slugs and the cysticercoids excyst in the duodenum.
