Location of dipylidium
SI
Morphology of Dipylidium
20-50 cm, scolex: 4 suckers, 3-4 rows of hooks, 60-175 proglottids
Genital pore: Both sides of pIroglottids, uterus if found in mature proglottids. Two set of genital organs. Egg are capsuled.
D. caninum - rostellum with 3-4 rows of 50-60 hooks
D. sexcoronatum - rostellum with 6 rows of 48-60 hooks
LC of dipylidium
Eggs out in the faeces with proglottid. Flea larva ingests the eggs (cocoons). Oncosphere hatches from the egg. It penetrates hemocoel and forms cysticercoid. Flea undergoes metamorphosis into adult. The FH eats flea with cysticercoid inside and the cysticercoid becomes an adult tapeworm inside the intestine.
Pathogenesis of Dipylidium
Asymptomatic but may cause verminous intoxication
FH of dipylidium
Carnivores:
- D. caninum - dog, cat, human
- D. sexcoronatum - cat
CS of Dipylidium
- Anorexia,
- matt, brittle fur
- vomitus
Metacestode of Dipylidium
Cysticercoid
