Pathogenesis of Taenia hydatigena
A
- FH: Produce only mild inflammation in the site of attachment. Typically, asymptomatic.
- IH: traumatization of intestinal mucosa, liver parenchyma. Hepatitis traumatica cysticercosa acuta = fatal. Gives liver cirrhosis and inflammation in lungs. Migration marks can be present in the liver due to the migration – leads to fatal and acute hepatitis in young animals. Peracute form: mortality without symptoms.

Q
LC of Taenia hydatigena
A
- Adult taenia is attached to SI of FH. Mature, egg-containing proglottids are released and shed through the feces.
- The eggs get released from the proglottid, & is ingested by IH. The hexacanth larva hatches and migrates through the liver tissue to encyst in peritoneal membranes where it develops into a cysticercus tenuicollis (large infectious larvocyst, 7-8 cm).
- FH ingest the cysticercus, and it develop into an adult in the small intestine.
