What should you use to solve problems of 3 overlapping sets?
Venn Diagram
How can you represent all elements in Group A?
Group A = d + e + g + h
What area is: A only, B only, C only?
How would you calculate the total number of members in exactly one group?
in A only + # in B only + # in C only = Total number of members in exactly one group
What area is: (A and B and C) only?
What area is: Neither A, Nor B, Nor C
What area is the overlap between the different groups?
What area is: (A and B) only, (B and C) only, (A and C) onky?
Fill in this venn diagram:
14 spreak French and Spanish, 16 speak German and Spanish, and 13 speak French and German
How would you tackle this?
Start in the centre with those who do all three, and work your way out.
How would you find how many items dont belong in any group if you are given:
You add all of Group A + Group B + Group C, and then subtract “# of items that belong to exactly 2 groups” and subtract “# of items that belong to exactly 3 groups” TWICE!
Solve:
How many people want either Job A or Job B?
[WATCH OUT!]
This is asking for people wanting either job A or Job B, NOT for how many people want exactly one job.
So its both + only A + only B
