A

Through infected saliva

How does IM present?

A
  • Prodromal phase: malaise, fatigue, headache and low fever
  • Triad: sore throat, lymphadenopathy, pyrexia

How is IM investigated?

A
  • Mainly clinical diagnosis
  • FBC and Monospot test in 2nd week of illness

How is IM managed?

A
  • Rest, fluids and analgesia
  • Avoid contact sports for 8 weeks after to reduce risk of splenic fracture

Maculopapular, pruritic rash
