  • Strep pneumoniae

How does otitis media present?

A
  • Ear pain
  • Reduced hearing in the affected ear
  • Malaise/Fever
  • Symptoms of URTI
  • Balance issues/vertigo
  • Discharge from the ear
  • Bulging, red, inflamed TM

How is otitis media managed?

A
  • Usually resolves without need for Abx
  • Simple analgesia
  • Abx can be immediate/delayed in co-morbid patients/systemically unwell
  • Amoxicillin for 5-7 days is first line/Clarithromycin
