1A5 - CSF Dynamics Flashcards
(12 cards)
Where is CSF produced?
By small arteries and arterioles in the leptomeninges and the choroid plexus
How is CSF produced?
Through ultrafiltration of blood plasma through the choroid plexus and modified secretions from the epithelial secretory cells
What is the course of the flow of CSF?
Lateral ventricle –> interventricular foramen –> third ventricle –> mesencephalic aqueduct –> fourth ventricle –> central canal (spinal cord) & lateral apertures (into the subarachnoid space)
What are the three routes by which CSF can be absorbed from the subarachnoid space?
1) By the venules of the subarachnoid space
2) Into the venous sinuses of the brain (passing through invaginations in the wall of the sinus called arachnoid villi)
3) Lymphatic vessels of the cranial and spinal nerve roots
What is structure A?
Third ventricle
What is structure B?
Obex
What is structure C?
Cerebromedullary cistern
What is structure D?
Subarachnoid space
What is structure E?
Central canal (spinal canal)
What is structure F?
Fourth ventricle
What structure is G?
Mesencephalic equeduct
What structure is H?
Lumbar cistern
The lumabr cistern is the fluid space beyond the conus medullaris
