3.1 Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
What is the difference between Oxidation and Reduction?
A
Oxygen is a loss of electrons. Reduction is the gaining or electrons.
2
Q
What is a Galvanic/Voltaic cell?
A
A battery that creates electricity using a chemical reaction.
3
Q
What does An Ox, Red Cat mean?
A
Anode becomes Oxidized, Reduction is Cathode. In other words, the Anode loses electrons and the Cathode gains them.
4
Q
What is Electrolysis?
A
Electricity making certain chemistry reactions occur that wouldn’t happen otherwise.
5
Q
What is a titrant?
A
A solution of known concentration that is added (titrated) to another solution.
6
Q
What is an analyte?
A
The analyte (titrand) is the solution with an unknown molarity.
