Q

Contrast urbanisation and counter urbanisation considering movement, time period, when it happened, wealth and qualifications of people.

A

In urbanisation, more people moved into the urban areas and the population grew, and so did the industry eg. The industrial revolution. Also transport improved, allowing for further commuting and access. In counter urbanisation, less people are living in the urban areas as they believe they will live a higher wuality of life elsewhere in a rural environment for a oeacful retirement or better value for money on land. Population decline eg. London 1970 to 1980.

Q

Why did suburbanisation happen?

A

People moved to the suburbs because the inner cities became too crammed and polluted to live healthily, so they moved into the suburbs where land is cheaper and living is marginally healthier.

Q

Why did counter urbanisation occur?

A

People moved from urban to live rural environments because there has been increased transport for people in rural areas travelling into the cities to work, making it easier for people to still work in good jobs but not have to live in the city.

Q

What is reurbanisation?

A

After the process of counter urbanisation, the government attempt to entice people back into the city though a series of investments: high quality working and living environments. An overall upgrade and regeneration in infrastructure.

They try to get business investments as one investment leads to another, and if one business investment is a success other business will follow in a chain effect and people will be forced to work back in the cities.

Q

Differences between commercial, industrial and residential land?

A

Commercial land is usually found within the CBDs. Small businesses, shops. A lot of economic investment; large buildings, dense proximity shoppers and buildings etc.
Residential land use varies from areas or rural influence or urban influence. Usually it implies to the suburbs where the value for money isn’t great, but the housing is less expensive than the CBD. Rural housing is the cheapest and the best value for money.
