Use

A
  • used in conjunction with SCBA or neg pressure mask to provide user with Level 3B protection against hazardous chemical splashes.
  • suitable for use by personnel performing decontamination duties.
  • safety not suitable for environment where there is exposure to flame or heat.

Construction

A
  • constructed in one piece with integrated gloves
  • made from Kappler Zytron material with serge over locked seams and covered with a chemical barrier that is heat sealed over the seams.
  • zipper constructed of plastic chain, metal slide and pull and urethane polyester cloth tape
  • zipper protected by double flap system composed of material secured by hook and loop system
  • legs fitted with Kappler Zytron booties to seal around feet
  • gloves made from Best Chloroflex Neoprene are sewn into the suit and heat sealed over the seams.
  • Boots are PVC upper and sole with steel cap toe.
  • Nitrile surgical gloves worn under suit.

Operation

A

Consists of four stages:
- Don
- Decontamination
- Doff
- Disposal

Prepare Dressing area
- in cold zone, uphill and upwind
- salvage sheet, chairs and shade
- lay out suit, boots, nitrile gloves and respiratory equipment

Prepare to Don
- Level 1 PPE
- no jewelry, pens, utility knives, etc
- open suit zipper completely
- inspect garment

Don
- remove footwear
- while sitting insert feet into suit booties, pulling garment up to hips
- pull up boot splash flaps and don outer PVC boots. fold flaps down over boots.
- don face mask (make sure demand valve disconnected for SCBA)
- don nitrile gloves
- stand and put left arm into sleeve and glove
- pull hood over head ensure seal around facemask (wearer to hold on to facemask)
- put right arm into sleeve and glove
- close zipper slowly and flaps over zipper.
- charge SCBA, quarter turn
- Don SCBA and complete three tests

Decontamination
- as directed by OIC

Doff
- decon crew to assist doffing
- tell wearer to take deep breath before disconnecting demand valve after pressing first breath mechanism.
- facemask stays in place during suit removal
- remove SCBA back plate
- open zipper fully
- remove right arm from sleeve and remove hood
- remove left arm from sleeve and lower suit below hips
- sit wearer down, remove boots and then remove remainder of suit
Safety at no time is the wearer to touch the outside of the suit when doffing to reduce risk of contamination.
- remove facemask

Disposal
- 3B Suit is a single use item, to be disposed of as per Directive 16.9.
- PVC boots may be reusable, based on Scientific advice
- if exposure benign, suit may be utilised for training purposes only
