Description
Dry chemical powder (DCP) extinguisher
Use
- first response firefighting equipment
- used for A, B and C class fires in their initial stages
- safe to use with E class fires
- F class should only be extinguished with BE (sodium bicarb and potassium sulphate) rated DCP.
Construction
Consists of five parts
- cylinder
- cylinder marking
- operating head assembly
- discharge hose and nozzle
- extinguishing agent
Cylinder
- coloured red with white band 270 degrees around
- made of stainless steel, carbon steel or non-ferrous metal with skirt at base.
- neck ring has internal thread
Cylinder marking
- permanently marked with specification and operation instruction label
Operating head assembly
- opens seal of cylinder
- actuating mechanism which initiates a discharge
- screwed into cylinder neck
- anti tamper seal
- safety pin
- pressure gauge
- pressure release vents
- syphon which goes into cylinder
- carry handle
Discharge nose and nozzle
- flexible hose to direct extinguishing agent.
Extinguishing agent
- (A) mono ammonium phosphate
- (B) sodium bicarb
- (E) potassium sulphate
Operation
PASS
- Pull the pin
- Aim the nozzle
- Squeeze the handle
- Sweep the nozzle back and forth over the fire.
Testing
Visual (Six monthly)
- readily accessible
- anti tamper
- instructions legible
- maintenance tag
- no damage or corrosion
- nozzle and hose not damaged
- pressure gauge
- invert and shake
