Description
Telescopic Link Stick (Link Stick)
Use
- de-energise a low voltage electrical supply to residential house by removing overhead primary service fuses
Construction
- made of high density fibreglass laminate
- 5-7 telescopic sections
- extends from 1.5m - 10.5m.
- spring loaded pins to lock off each section
- plastic threaded base permits dismantling for cleaning
- threaded pig tal tip
- universal head allowing for fitting other heads (hook tool attachment)
Operation
Five sequences
- prep
- extend
- connecting head
- extract fuse
- rehousing
Prep
- PPE
- ID fuse
- remove link stick
- ensure pig tail attached in correct position
- check service date
- stand under fuse
Extend
- hold vertical with base on ground
- extend one section at a time starting with smallest diameter
- rotate each section until lock in pin engaged
- check secure before moving to next section
- continue until approx 1m below fuse
Connection to head
- lift stick up to fuse
- engage tip
- rotate stick clockwise
Extract
- look down
- pull stick down sharply
Rehousing
- rest base on ground
- press locking pin, turn slightly and fully retract to section (repeat until all sections lowered)
- hold head of stick and rotate service fuse off head
- restow link stick in case
- place fuse at base of power pole.
Safety
- wear electrical gloves
- visor down on helmet in case of falling debris
- when pulling fuse, look down as parts may fall
- ensure all of fuse has been pulled, otherwise may still be live
Testing
monthly or after use
- pole extends full length
- locking pins engage
- no damage to pole
- pig tail thread in good condition
- parts move freely
- Electrical Authority test label in place and up to date.
Maintenance (6 monthly)
- electrical test conducted by authorised authority.
