50. Lincomycins, pleuromutilins Flashcards
(14 cards)
Lincomycins, Active substances:
- Lincomycin
- Clindamycin
- Pirlimycin ⭢ Intramammary infusion
Lincomycins, mechanism of action:
Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. The bacterial ribosomes are essential for protein synthesis, and the proteins are vital for bacterial growth.
The inhibition of these ribosomes will effectively halt bacterial replication
Lincomycins, mode of action:
Bacteriostatic
Lincomycins, AB sepctrum:
Lincomycins, pharmacokinetics:
1. Absorption
Good
2. Distribution
Excellent, but cannot cross BBB
3. Metabolism
Liver
4. Excretion
Via bile and urine
Lincomycins, toxicity:
Severe tissue irritation!
Lincomycin
Mainly used in food producing animals
- Foot rot
- Wounds
- Mastitis
- Metritis
Clindamycin
Mainly used in companion animals
