secondary chords

  • the “key signature” method is to take a chord we want to find the dominant or leading tone chord of. then we add the accidentals to make the chord fit into the key of the chord and piece
  • another method is to know the note you are trying to tonicize and then write in the correct accidental to make the chord fit with the tonicized chord
  • you can also know how to spell out the dominant and leading tone chords and then alter the chord to fit into the tonality it should have
  • secondary dominant
    • the preferred quality is major
  • secondary leading tone
    • the preferred quality is fully diminished
