Responsibility of Incident Commander/ Company Officer
- Initial Safety Officer
- Assess Parking Needs of Later Companies
- Do Not Return Companies Until Adequate Safe Zone Created
- Direct Placement of Vehicles to Provide Protective Blocking of Scene
- Call for Additional Resources to Create Safe Work Zone
- Ensure Proper Level PPE
Responsibility of Apparatus Operator
- Ensure Proper Warning Lights are On
* Position Apparatus to Provide Buffer Zone Between Apparatus and Incident
Apparatus Placement
First Arriving Company:
*Position in Manner that Effectively Barricades Safe Work Zone from Oncoming Traffic
(Angled)
- Provide Greater Lateral Protection of the Scene
- Utilize Reflective Striping
- Promote Flow of Traffic in a Given Direction
Operating in the Vicinity of Sight Distance Obstruction (Hills, Curves, est..):
-The Additional Apparatus Shall Position in the Same Lane as the Incident, Prior to the Obstruction, to Provide Warning

Cones
- Each Apparatus Equipped With At Least 3 (Three)
- (28-inch) Traffic Cones Used Anytime the Unit is Parked on a Roadway
- Placed Starting at Approximately 100 Feet Behind the Unit Angling in a Line Towards the Desired Flow of Traffic Around the Incident

- Angle Unit to Direct Motorist Toward Desired Flow of Traffic
- PPE
- Minimum Helmet and Reflective Vest or Bunker Coat
- DEMOBILIZING THE SCENE
- Systematically to Ensure Cont. Safety of Emergency Personnel
- Retrieve Cones Starting with Cones Near Apparatus Closet to Accident
