• In the laboratory, wearing the proper protective clothing is extremely important. Protective clothing includes goggles, a lab coat, and rubber gloves.
• Long pants and closed-toed shoes add an extra layer of
  protection between any chemical spill and skin. This extra layer can give extra time to wash off any chemicals that may have spilled.
• It is important to know where to find and how to use all of the safety equipment in the laboratory.
• In case of a fire, a fire extinguisher may be necessary. A fire blanket can be used to put out burning clothing.
• In the laboratory, water is often the first line of defense for a chemical spill. If there is a chemical spill, the best first step is to wash it off completely in a sink, or with the safety shower.
• The eyes are the most fragile part of the body. The eye wash can be the difference between a minor accident and loss of vision.
