Approaches Flashcards

1
Q

What are the gates?

A

10,000ft. Be at 250kts, 35miles
6,000ft. Be at green dot, 20miles
3,000ft. Be flap 1. 10miles

Q

At the top of descent, what more should you descend in?

A

If the OFP is accurate, go down in managed.

If high due late descent, go open des to regain the vert profile.

Q

What speed at 10,000?

When will the AC go into this speed?

A

250kts. In managed the AC should begin reducing the ROD about 1000ft above.

Q

When will we take flaps 1?

A

Eitherq when on an intercept heading to the localiser and NOT LESS THAN 3 MILES approaching the FAF.

We must be configured and at S speed before the FAF.

The Final Approach point is demarcated as a P on the lido profile, or if different to descent point, an F.

Q

When will we take flaps 2?

A

On a decelerated approach, at 2000’

If below 2000’, one dot below glide.

Q

Scenario: you are on glide and fast, and extending flap 2 will cause the AC to balloon. What will you do?

A

We can take gear down below 220 kts to slow down. Then take flap 2 before 2000’ agl.

Q

Scenario: you are given a shortcut. What will you do?

A

Extend the centreline to gain a meaningful “too” waypoint.
Assess the height and times by three, then add speed to lose to 180, then a tailwind, and check that distance against the MCDU. If you are on profile, use VS. If you are above, use open descent.

Use the energy circle and level off icons for indicators.

Q

What indications do you have that you are on profile in hdg or nav modes?

A

The ENERGY CIRCLE in hdg mode should be approx on the right distance.

The prog page will say if high or low.

The doughnut.

Q

If you are being speed controlled, what will you do?

Fast?

Slow?

A

Still join the localiser at green dot speed. If held at 210 kts, fly green dot. Extend flap one on loc, and pull speed. When cleared to decel, MANAGE SPEED and decel using flap. If fast on glide, use gear to decel.

If kept slow, 160 to 4, fly as normal but selected speed.
At 5d, manage speed, lower gear, then flap 3, 4 and landing checks.

Q

If receiving vectors and speed controlled, what might it be sensible to do?

A

It might be a good idea to activate the approach. This way when you push for managed speed, the AC will decelerate to green dot instead of accelerating to 250.
