- Unconscious from head injury/unknown cause
- Rapid acceleration/decelration event (RTC, sports injury)
- Multiple blunt force injuries
- Conscious and complaining of neck pain/loss of function
- Blast injuries

- Fall from height

- Trismus

- May induce vomiting
- If too short, no tongue support
- If too large, may block airway

- Baseline fracture of the skull (with caution)
