Anatomy 8 Flashcards
(27 cards)
The abdominal aorta begins at
The midline at the aortic opening of the diaphragm, opposite lower border of the vertebra T12.
The abdominal aorta pass down from L1 to
L4 & then divides into the right & left common iliac arteries.
Anterior of the Abdominal aorta
1) Body of pancreas
2) Left renal vein & splenic vein
3) 3rd part of the duodenum
Posterior of the Abdominal aorta
Bodies of the upper four lumbar vertebrae
3rd & 4th left lumbar veins
On the right of the abdominal aorta
1) Thoracic duct
2) Right crus of the diaphragm
3) Azygos vein
4) IVC
On the left side of the abdominal aorta
Left crus of the diaphragm
Visceral Branches of the Abdominal aorta
( Paired & Unpaired )
Unpaired
1) Celiac Trunk
Upper level of L1
2) Superior mesenteric artery
Lower level of L1
3) Inferior mesenteric artery
Level of L3
Paired
1) Middle suprarenal artery
Level of L1
2) Renal artery
Between L1 & L2
3) Testicular or Ovarian arteries
Level at L2
Posterior branches of the abdominal aorta
1) Inferior phrenic arteries
T12
2) Lumbar arteries
L1- L4
3) Median Sacral artery
L4
Aortic aneurysm
Describes a dilation of the artery to more than 1.5 times its Original size.
Most common site for aneurysmal changes
The abdominal component of the aorta
Symptoms of the abdominal aorta
Abdominal pulsations, abdominal pain, & back pain.
The celiac artery gives 3 branches
1) Splenic artery
2) Common hepatic artery
3) Left gastric
The splenic artery gives
1) Left gastroepiploic
2) Short gastric arteries
Common hepatic artery gives
1) Right gastric
2) Gastroduodenal
Gastroduodenal gives
1) Right gastroepiploic
2) Sup pancreatico duodenal
Left gastric gives
1) Esophageal branches
2) Gastric branches
The largest & widest vein of the body
IVC
The IVC is formed by
The union of the 2 common iliac veins, behind the right common iliac artery at the level of the 5th lumbar vertebra.
The IVC ascends on
The right side at the aorta
The IVC reaches the groove on the posterior surface of the liver
Between the right & caudate lobes
The IVC pierces the
Central tendon of the diaphragm at the level of the 8th thoracic vertebra
The IVC terminates
by entering the right atrium of the heart
Tributaries of IVC
T8: Right & Left inferior phrenic veins
T8: Hepatic veins
L1: Right suprarenal vein
L2: Right & Left renal veins
L2: Right gonadal vein
L3-L4: 3rd & 4th lumbar veins
L5: Right & left common iliac veins
