Flashcards in Antianginals Deck (25):
1

Carvedilol trade names

Coreg, Coreg CR

2

carvedilol drug classification

antianginal

3

carvedilol expected effect

decrease cardiac output, exercise & reflex orthostatic tachycardia by causing vasodilation & reducing peripheral vascular resistance

4

why use carvedilol

hypertension, CHF, cardiomyopathy, MI

5

carvedilol route of admin

PO

6

carvedilol dosages

BP 6.25 bid, then ^ 12.5 BID
CHF 3.125 bid then 6.25 bid
post MI 6.25 bid, then 12.5bid, to 25bid

7

carvedilol adverse effects

bradycardia, AV block, pulmonary edema, CHF, lung edema, bronchospasm, thrombocytopenia

8

carvedilol BLACK BOX

Abrupt discontinuation, do not discontinue before surgery, taper over 1-2 weeks, life threatening dysrhythmias occur

9

isosorbide dinitrate trade names

Apo- ISDN, Isordil, IsoDitrate, Dilatrate SR, Isochron

10

isosorbide dinitrate drug classification

antianginal

11

isosorbide dinitrate expected effect

relaxes vascular smooth muscle which decrease preload & after load, which decreases left ventricular end diastolic pressure, systemic vascular resistance & reduce cardiac oxygen demand

12

isosorbide dinitrate why use

chronic stable angina pectoris

13

isosorbide dinitrate route of admin

PO, SL

14

isosorbide dinitrate dosage

PO 5-20mg BID TID (Maintain 10-40)
SL 2.5-5mg TID
extended release 40-80mg, max 160/day

15

isosorbide dinitrate adverse effects

anemia, methemoglobinemia

16

isosorbide dinitrate nursing implications

assess angina & methemoglobinemia
check BP, pulse, respirations
do not discontinue abruptly
no alcohol/ hazardous activities
move slowly to prevent orthostatic hypotension

17

nitroglycerine trade names

nitro-time, nitrogard SR, Nitro- BID, Reactive, Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, NitroMist, Nitro- Dur

18

nitroglycerine drug classification

antianginal, coronary vasodilator

19

nitroglycerine expected effect

decrease angina pain, decrease preload & after load, decrease left ventricle end diastolic pressure, systemic vessel resistance, dilate arteries veins, coronary arteries

20

nitroglycerine why use

chronic stable angina
CHF
MI
angina
controlled hypotension during surgery

21

routes of admin for nitroglycerine

SL, PO, topical, IV, transdermal patch, rectal, nasal

22

nitroglycerine adverse effects

collapse & palpitations, postural hypotension

23

nitroglycerine nursing implications

assess: pain, pulse, BP
teach: how to take routes, move slowly to avoid fainting, take med before strenuous activity
- light headed, low BP may need lower dose

24

nitroglycerine black box warnings

alcohol can cause hypotension & circa collapse
erectile dysfunction lead to hypotension & death

25

nitroglycerine dosages
