Mirror neurons fire when we do something and observe something. This helps with learning motor movements and other particular skills

Allow people to see depth and meaning

The use of symbols has increased showing language is becoming more efficient and art work is changing in correlation
How do we imagine things?
Neurons fire to explain what something looks like even if we’ve never witnessed it
What is the role of white matter in imagination?
White matter tracts activate different areas of the brain at once to generate an image
How is imagination different for ASD?
Potentially lack creativity and imagination. Shown in a study where ASD P could not draw a man with two heads, drew two men
What are some examples of the visual and spatial disabilities for Alzheimer’s?
Visual attention, motion detection, depth perception, angle discrimination, colour recognition
What can happen to art in a patient with Alzheimer’s?
Child like lacking depth and movement, lack of relationship
How can neurological changes affect art production?
Unique visual vocab, aids to descriptive accuracy, changes in expressive powers
What is visual agnosia?
Difficulty in recognising objects after Brian damage
What is associative agnosia?
Visual perception is intact but impaired semantic knowledge
