auditory system Flashcards
(8 cards)
what nerve is associated with the auditory pathway ?
cochlear nerve - CN 8
if there is a brainstem lesion associated with hearing loss where is it most likley located ?
in the cerebellopontine angle
what are the two types of hearing loss ?
conductive the sound waves dont convert to nerve signals
and sensorinureal 7aga gowa 5ales
what is presbycussis ?
age related hearing loss
due to degeneration of the organ of corti
results in sensorinureal hearing loss
what is webers test ?
a tuning fork is used and out on the forehead , normal response is to hear the sound on both ears
if its louder in the bad ear -conductive hearing loss
if it is louder in the good ear - that is sensorineural hearing loss
how is a rinne test conducted ?
tuning fork placed behind the ear on the mastoid bone
wait until the patient cam no longer hear the vibrations , then move the fork out into the air
what are the different results associated with rinne test ?
we see the difference between air and bone conduction
normall air conduction should be better than bone conduction
in conductive HL - the bone conduction is better
in SNHL - the air conduction is better
what are the two types of noise induced hearing loss ?
1- abrupt sudden loss of hearing after loud noise stereociliated cells of organ of corti
2- long term noise exposure - associated with loss of hearing high frequency noises first
