bones Flashcards
(26 cards)
skeletal sytem
there are 206 bones in the human body, we are born with more than 300 bones, it is divided into 2 parts: axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton
axial system
consist of 80 bones
Appendicular skeleton
Consist of 126 bones including the pectoral girdle bony pelvis and upper and lower limbs
Joints
Bones are connected to other bones and jointsthere are. There are three types of joints fixed joints, hinge joints and ball and socket joints
Male and female skeletal system
Males and females have slightly different skeleton including a different elbow angle. Makes have slightly thicker and longer legs and arms females have a wider Pelvis and a larger space within the pelvis through which babies travel when they are born
Bones
Contain a lot of calcium. manufactures blood cells and store important minerals. the longest bone in our bodies is the femur which is the Thigh bone. The smallest bone is the Stirrup bone. Inside the ear.
Cartilage
A flexible substance that is not as hard as a bone such as your nose and Ears
hand
there are 27 bones. 14 of which are the phalanges (fingers) (proximal, intermediate and distal) The metacarpals are the bones that connect the fingers and the wrist. the carpus(wrist) has 8 bones, the metcarpus(palm) has 5 bones
phanlanex bone
bones that make up the hand and foot
phanlex bone finger
the distal phalanx bone carrying the nail, the middle phalanx and the proximal phalanx, the thumb has the distal and proximal
wrist bones
scaphoid, trapezium, trapezoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, capitate, hamate
foot
there are 26 bones, 3 parts: forefoot, midfoot, and the hindfoot
forefoot
contains the five toes (phalanges) and the five longer bones (metatarsals).
midfoot
is a pyramid-like collection of bones that form the arches of the feet. These include the three cuneiform bones, the cuboid bone, and the navicular bone.
hindfoot
forms the heel and ankle. The talus bone supports the leg bones (tibia and fibula), forming the ankle. The calcaneus (heel bone) is the largest bone in the foot.
arm

shoulder bones
2 shoulder blade, 2 collarbone (also called the clavicle)
Thorax bones
25 bones: sternum(middle of chest) ribs (24 bones). ribs are connected to the sternum
Vertebral column bones
24 bones:cervical vertebrae (7), thoracic vertebrae (12), lumbar vertebrae (5)
