1
Q

brainstem def

A

is the posterior part of the brain, it connects cerebrum with the spinal cord, it coordinates motor control signals sent from the brain to the body

A

personality, behavior, emotions, judgment, planning, problem solving, speech: speaking and writing (brocas area), body movement (motor strip), intelligence, concentration, and self awareness

in between the prefrontal and posterior frontal cortex, controls smell, instincts and raw emotions

Q

parietal lobe controls

A

words, interprets language, sense of touch, pain, temp (sensory strip), interprets signals from vision, hearing, motor, sensory and memory, spatial and visual perception

Q

parietal lobe contains

A

neurons that receive sensory info from the skin and tongue, and processes sensory info from the ears and eyes that are recieved in other lobes

12
Q

parietal lobe def

A

located behind the frontal lobe and above the occipital lobe, this is where information like taste, temperature and touch are processed

A

located below the parietal lobe, controls visual processing (light, color. movement)

16
Q

temporal lobe contains

A

the limbic system, olfactory cortex, amygdala and the hippocampus

17
Q

amygdala def

A

located at the end of the hypothalamus and is part of the limbic system which is located in the temporal lobe, there is two of these

18
Q

amygdala controls

A

fear, anger, pleasure (emotional response), what memories are stored and where the memories are stored in the brain

19
Q

amygdala receieves

A

sensory info from the thalamus and cerebral cortex

20
Q

hippocampus def

A

center of the limbic system (and part of the limbic system), it is conected to the hypothalamus by the fornix, one on each hemisphere (left and right)

21
Q

hippocampus is responsible for

A

the transfer of memories into long-term storage

22
Q

limbic system def

A

located on top of the brainstem in the temporal lobe, and is the center of our emotions, learning and memory

23
Q

limbic system includes

A

the hypothalamus, amygdala, cingulate gyrus, fornix, hippocampus, olfactory cortex and the thalamus

24
Q

fornix

A

connects the hippocampus to the hypothalamus

25
hypothalamus def
located above the pituitary gland and below the thalamus on both sides of the third ventricle, it is the control center for many autonomic functions of the peripheral nervous system, part of the limbic system
26
hypothalamus responsible for
maintaining the body's homeostasis. such as controlling, hunger, thirst, sleep and sexual response. it also regulates body temp, blood pressure, emotions and the secretion of hormones, controls the pituitary gland
27
thalamus def
located between the cerebral cortex and mid brain, controls hypothalamus, part of limbic system, is in both sides of the thalamus, serves as a relay station for all info (except smell) that comes and goes to the cortex
28
thalamus controls
sleep and awake states, motor control, receives auditory, somatosensory and visual sensory signals, and relays sensory signals to the cerebral cortex
