Q

branches

A

cutaneous sensory branches:
1) lesser occipital N
2) greater auricular N
3) transverse N of neck (transverse cervical)
4) supraclavicular Nerves (medial, intermediate and lateral)

motor branches:
1) inferior root of ansa cervicalis
2) phrenic N
3) muscular branches (for prevertebral + lateral v.bral mm)

Q

phrenic n

A

mest motor fibers for diaphragm
-sensory fibers to associated membranes
(small area of pleura, peritoneum and pericardium)

-it runs at anterior surf of Scalenus anterior m
-behind subclav vein (in lateral neck region)

-w.in thorax, desc in anterior mediastinum
-in front of pulmonary root
-milli fibrous pericardium og mediastinal pleura to the diaphragm

*acc. by pericardiophrenic vessels

Q

phrenic nerve frh

A

*right phrenic nerve:
passes thru central tendon of diaphragm (caval aperture)

*left phrenic nerve:
passes thru muscular p of diaphragm,
anterior to the central tendon

Q

inferior root of ansa cervicalis (hypoglossal ansa)

A

connects with superior root of hypoglossal nerve
—> forming ansa cervicalis (hypoglossal ansa)
-gives motor fibers for infrahyoid mm

Q

cutaneous - sensory branches

A

cut. branches visible in posterior triangle
as they pass dorsally on sternocleidomastoid m
in “punctum nervorum”

1) lesser occipital N:
-asc on post. border of sternocleidomastoid m
-distributes to the skin neck + scalp posterior to the ear

2) greater auricular N:
-asc across sternocleidomastoid m to base of ear
-supply skin parotid region, ear + mastoid area.

3) Transverse cervical N:
-passes around midpart of sternocleidomastoid,
asc horizontally across the muscle to supply
lateral + anterior p of neck

4) Supraclavicular nerves:
-descend + supply skin over clavicle and shoulder
as far as inferiorly as rib 2
