Ch 8 Flashcards
(32 cards)
Synarthroses
immovable joints
Amphiarthroses
Slightly movable joints
Diarthroses
Freely movable joints
Fibrous joints
connected by fibrous CT, have no joint cavity
Types of fibrous joints
sutures
syndesmosis
gomphosis
Sutures
between bones of skull, puzzle like, synarthrosis
ex-coronal suture
Syndesmosis
bones connected by ligament or sheet of CT, amphiarthrosis
ex-distal tiniofibular joint, interosseous membrane
Gomphosis
anchors root of tooth into boney socket, synarthrosis
ex- periodontal ligament
Cartilaginous Joints
united by cartilage, no joint cavity
Types of cartilaginous joints
Synchondrosis
Symphysis
Synchondrosis
joined by hyaline cartilage, synarthrosis
ex- Epiphyseal plate, joint between 1st rib and sternum
Symphysis
joined by fibrocartilage, amphiarthrosis
ex- Intervertebral discs, pubic symphysis
Synovial Joints
seperated by fluid filled joint cavity, all ar diarthroses
Articular capsule - Fibrous layer
Outer, made of dense irregular CT
Articular capsule - Synovial membrane
Inner, secrtes synovial fluid
What does synovial fluid do?
Nourishes articular cartilages and provides lubrication to reduce friction
Gliding
flat bone surfaces move past each other
Flexion - Extension
angle between bones decrease - “ “ Increase
Abduction - Adduction
Movement away from midline - Toward midline
Circumduction
Movement of limb, hand, or fingers in circular pattern
Rotation
turning of a bone around its own long axis
Supination - Pronation
palm faces forward/up - “ “ backward
Dorsiflextion - Plantar flexion
lifting foot toward shin - lifting heal from ground
Inversion Eversion
sole faces medially - “ “ laterally
