Peace agreement, signed Dec 24th 1814, ended war of 1812 between US and Britain. Restored pre-war boundaries and returned prisoners.
Treaty of Ghent
(1814-1815) convention of federalists from New England states who opposed the war of 1813 and resented the strength of southern and western intrests in congress and White House
Hartford convention
1817- signed by Britain and the US, establish limits on naval arrangements in the Great Lakes. First step in the full demilitarization of the US Canadian border
Rush- Bagot Agreement
18220s, Henry clays three pronged system to promote American industry. Clay advocated a strong banking system, protective tariffs and a federally funded transportation network
American system
1816-1824. Name for period of one party republican rule during James Monroe’s presidency. Term obscures bitter conflicts over internal impairments, slavery and national bank
Era of good feelings
Severe finical crisis brought on primarily by the efforts of the bank of the US to curve over speculation on western lands. Affected the poorer classes especially west
Panic of 1819
1819, failed proposal to prohibit importation of slaves into Missouri territory and pave the way for gradual emancipation. South opposed
Talmadge amendment
Term for institution of American slavery in the south. Used in first half of 19th century. Reflected division in north (slavery abolished) compared to south
Peculiar institution
1819, Supreme Court strengthens federal authority, upheld constitutionality of bank, establishing Maryland couldn’t tax bank
McCulloch vs Maryland
Legal doctrine that holds the federal job can use powers not specifically granted or prohibited in constitution to carry out its constituinallly mandated responsibilities
Loose construction
1824, whether NY could grant a monopoly to a Ferry operating on k interstate waters. Reasserted congress power to regulate interstate commerce

Agreement between US and Spain that established the border between the two countries that ceded Florida to US
Adam’s-onis treaty
1823, by James Monroe earning European powers to refrain from seeking new territories in the Americas. US/ lacked power to back up the ptoncument
