Describe the differences in wording between Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG’s)
● SOP’s are the laws of the department and can result in legal action if they are not followed.
● Standard Operating Procedures use defining words such as must and will.
● SOG’s are guidelines that can be followed to mitigate a myriad of events but unlike SOP’s they can be deviated from if there is just cause.
● Standard Operating Guidelines use defining words such as may and shall.
Standard Operating Procedures are written policies for Fire/Rescue Department operations. List what areas that the SOP’s include but are NOT limited to.

As per SOP #2C-9.65 Request for Change of Shift, describes the responsibilities of a member involved in a shift trade.
● Complete and sign the Shift Trade Form.
● Submit the completed (trade sheet) to the Station Captain for approval.
● Report for duty at the appropriate station at the appropriate time.
● Arrange for a qualified replacement, to report for duty in the event that the member responsible for the trade is unable to fulfill their obligation.
Describe the types of unacceptable conduct by a member that will not be tolerated within the Edmonton Fire Rescue (Services).
● Report for duty when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
● Discuss specific facts about any fire, medical or emergency response with any person not employed with the EFRS, except when authorized by EFRS
management.
● Furnish specific information relating to the business affairs of (EFRS) with any person not employed by (EFRS), except when authorized by (EFRS) management.
● Make false statements, which may discredit the (EFRS) or any of its members.
● Meet salespersons or clients to conduct personal business,
● Endorse a product marketed for the fire or medical services to non-ERD
employees.
● Harass or discriminate against anyone.
● Use their uniform, badge, rank, or position for personal gain.
