Coordination Flashcards
(15 cards)
How do neurones transmit information
Using high speed electrical impulses
Reflex arc
Stimulus-receptor-sensory neurone-relay neurone-motor neurone-effector-response
What happens when receptors in a sense organ detect a stimulus
The receptors send electrical impulses along sensory neurones to the CNS
The CNS then sends electrical impulses to an effective along a motor neurone
The effector will react accordingly
What are reflexes
Automatic responses to stimuli
Step 1 in a reflex arc
1.A stimulus is detected by receptors and an impulse is sent along a sensory neurone to the CNS
Step 2 in a reflex arc
In the CNS the sensory neurone passes on the message to another type of neurone (a relay neurone)
Step 3 in a reflex arc
The relay neurones relay the impulse to the motor neurone
Step 4 in a reflex arc
The impulse travels along the motor neurone to the effector
What is the central nervous system made of
The brain and spinal chord
What are the three main types of neurone
Sensory
Relay
Motor
Why do animals respond to changes in their external environment
It increases their chances of survival
What do effectors do
Being about a response to stimuli
What do receptors do
Detect stimuli
What are the 5 sense organs
Eyes
What’s a stimulus
A change in the internal or external environment
