Diffusion,Facilitated Diffusion,Active Transport Flashcards
(9 cards)
What does diffusion mean?
Dissolved substances have to pass through the cell membrane to get into or out of a cell.
e.g. when oxygen gas is in large concentration in the alveoli which the alveoli passes through the cell membrane of the cells of the lung into those cells. When the CO2 in the blood is in higher concentration the alveoli moves it out(high to low)
Explain Hypertonic
It is when water moves out of the thing its stored in to equalize the lower concentration which causes the thing to become flacid
Explain isotonic
It is when the water moves in and out of the things equally which results in equal mass
Explain Hypotonic
It is when water from the outside enters the thing to equalize the solution out but makes the thing turgid
The higher the concentration the…….
further particles spread due because there are more molecules
what is facilitated diffusion?
It is when proteins help glucose molecule pass through the membrane by forming a channel(high to low). this is how most of are digested food enters the body
What is Active Transport?
molecules found in lower concentration but needed in higher inside the cell. e.g minerals for plant growth. in this case cells such as roots use energy in the form of ATP to move these molecules through protein channels
which one of the three used energy?
Active Transport
What is Osmosis
special kind of diffusion involving water molecules
