Engineer Quick Guide Flashcards
(30 cards)
When breathing air in the basket on L201 and L204, what psi should the basket be kept at?
Ideally, the psi should be under 125psi. All the air needed at the basket is 100psi.
How much electrical draw is being pulled from the batteries on the apparatus at all times?
There is a 3-amp draw at all times from radio/communication equipment.
What psi is needed to release the spring brake chambers on the rear brake drum?
60 psi is needed.
The low air buzzer sounds in the cab at what psi?
Low air buzzer sounds between 50-70psi
What is the oil capacity of apparatus?
approximately 41 quarts
What is the coolant capacity of apparatus?
approximately 55 quarts
What is the transmission capacity of the apparatus?
approximately 40 quarts
What is the power steering capacity of the apparatus?
approximately 6 quarts
What is the primer oil capacity of the apparatus?
approximately 4 quarts
What is the hydraulic fluid capacity needed for tilting the cab?
approximately 1.3 gallons
What is the emergency air brake used for?
Depressing green emergency button will temporarily release brakes so apparatus can be moved off of roadway – maximum speed 2 mph. WARNING: When using emergency brake release, there are no service brakes.
What is a possible consequence of not idling the apparatus prior to shutting down?
Turbo charger temperature can soar to 1000 degrees if not idles for 1 minute before shutting down.
What is the fuel capacity of the apparatus?
approximately 65 gallons
What is the normal operating temperature for the coolant?
180-220 degrees F
What are possible causes for high temperatures?
- low coolant
- overuse of retarder
- belt of shaft not driving fan properly
- radiator plugged with dirt and debris
What is the normal operating PSI range for engine oil?
15-80 psi when cold or at high idle;
5-20 psi when hot and at idle
What is the normal range for voltage on the apparatus?
normal reading is between 13.5 - 14.8
What are possible reasons for a low reading?
- loose or missing belts
- low state of battery charge
- current load on alternator is greater than alternator can produce
- defective alternator
What are the normal air pressures for front and rear air brakes?
both front and rear should be between 90-130 psi
What is the normal operating temperature for transmission oil on apparatus?
160-220 degrees F is normal, with maximum of 330 degrees F intermittently
How long should the toggle switch be depressed after cab has settled?
Keep toggle switch depressed for 5 seconds after cab has settled completely and the rear cab locks have engaged. Red indicator light at panel will go off.
How much do the rpm’s increase with each push of switch on pressure governor?
each press will increase engine rpm by 25
When in pressure mode, how much will pressure increase/decrease with each movement?
when in pressure mode, each movement of the switch will increase or decrease PDP by 4 psi.
What percentage is the retarder set for and what does this mean?
Quantum’s are configured at 33% throttle and 67% braking. In other words, the retarder is applied to 1/3 its capacity when the throttle pedal is released. It is then applied to its full capacity when the brake pedal is depressed.
