what is an ethical issue
when there is a conflict between the rights of pps and the aims of the research

risk as pps should be in no more risk than they would be in day to day life

pps have the right to control information about themselves - should not be invaded
how to get around informed consent
sign a consent form or seek parental consent
other forms of consent are - presumptive, prior general, retrospective
how to get around deception
pps should be given a debrief of the aims, details that were not given, what the data will be used for and the right to withhold their data
how to get around protection from harm
give pps the right to withdraw
reassure pps behaviour was normal
provide counselling if pp was distressed
how to get around privacy and confidentiality
pp details must be held and not recorded
pps refered to with false names
pps not to share details with others
