people having an inability to cope with living day to day
a person may cross the line from normal to abnormal when they cannot deal with the demands from day to day life- basic standards
further signs of not coping (Rosenhan 1989)
no longer conform to interpersonal rules e.g maintain personal space
experience severe distress
show irrational or dangerous behaviour
intellectual disability disorder as a failure to function normally
a diagnosis of intellectual disability order can be provided they have a severely low IQ as well as this, they must be failing to function adequately before a diagnosis can be given
