Q

What is a problem with research into EWT?

A
  • EWT often used after violent crimes causes high anxiety but research into EWT has no emotional impact on participants resulting in low validity.

Q

How can anxiety increase recall?

A
  • State of arousal improves alertness and awareness of the situation and surroundings
  • Strong emotions felt could improve memory encoding

Q

What is Yerks-Dodson Law of Arousal?

A
  • EWT accuracy increases as anxiety raises as the witness becomes alert
  • However at a point anxiety becomes too high and more stress/distractions result in lower accuracy

Q

AO3 Strength - Evidence

A

Valentine and Mesout (2009) - high anxiety subjects recalled fewer details of an individual and 17% identified the actor in a lineup, compared to 75% of low anxiety subjects

Q

AO3 Limitation - Point

A

Q

AO3 Limitation - Evidence

A

Anxiety made of many elements (cognitive, emotional, behavioural, physiological). Inverted U theory only considers physical arousal.
