goal setting Flashcards
(3 cards)
whats a goal
A desired aim or outcome; something that you are trying to achieve.
SMARTER targets
Specific - The goal should be clear, focused and be specific to your performance needs.
Measurable - The goal should be measurable so you can track your progress and compare to previous results.
Agreed - The goal should be agreed by everyone in the training programme process.
Realistic - The goal should be realistic so that you can actually achieve your goal. If the goal is unrealistic by being too easy or too hard the performer will not be motivated.
Timed - The goal should be timed. You should have a specific date in which to reach your goal.
Exciting - The goal should motivate and inspire the performer to train and work hard.
Recorded - Goals should be written down to track progress and provide feedback.
Why is goal setting important
(2)
Increased Motivation
Having a specific and realistic goal can excite and encourage an individual to work harder, to be more focused during training and to overcome setbacks.
- Reduces Anxiety
Setting an agreed and measurable goal reduces an individual’s anxiety as they can regularly record and see the progress being made over time.
