Flashcards in HSCT and GVHD Deck (4):

In the first case the patient was diagnosed with AML. Why is remission for AML different than for other cancers

Remission is different since there is significant chances prolapse since the person at times has absolutely negligible immune system, if any.

What is therapy for AML on top of chemotherapy

HSCT, to get the person a good immune system

Purpose of SCT

1. Replacement therapy

2. Ablative therapy: HSCs from a person are immobilized into the blood, filtered and collected. The person's blood cell count is drastically reduced by chemo and the extracted HSCs are then planted.

3. Immunotherapy: it leads to graft vs tumor effect so the donated immune system or immune cells are more active towards destroying the tumor than other parts of the body

4. Gene therapy

What organism causes the most fungal infections in transplant patient
