Q

What is Client centred therapy and why did Rogers create it?

A

Client-centred therapy is the idea that the client is the one to solve their issues and problems in a theraputic and comforting environment where they are shown unconditional positive regard. Rogers implemented this in his works as he believed that the client was the expert of their own problems.

Q

AO3 FOR THE HUMANISTIC APPROACH

A

ethnocentric (Cultural)
maslows hierachy was developed in america and it was culturally biased towards western individualism. maslows of hierachy focuses on individualism which does not apply to collectivist cultures e.g. china where they prioritise family instead of self actualisation implying collectivist cultures are less able to achive self actualisation

real world application
for example client centred therapy developed by carl rogers. it has improved peformance in social day to day life, sports, motivation around the world and created a better working environment for students and improved health care

not scientific
this is because it relies on qualitative methods. leads to a lack of evidence on maslow hierachy of needs. self actualisation is criticsed for its vague meaning and lack of operationalism making it less valid and reliable + useful

Has face validity
