What is general cleanliness?
Bacteria will grow easily in most environments that are warm, light and moist. It is really important for that settings are cleaned well to reduce bacteria and prevent the spread of infection.
What is personal hygiene?
There are lots of opportunities for bacteria to grow and spread in health and social care settings. This is because they are accessed by many individuals over a day and many activities take place. Eg maps being prepared and served.
How does an open wound being covered protect individuals?
Reduces and prevents the transfer of bacteria and spread of infection.
How does no jewellery protect individuals?
Removes warm moist places where bacteria can multiply and be trapped.
How does appropriate protective clothing protect individuals?
Reduces and prevents transfer of bacteria and spread of infection.
Also a BARRIER METHOD.
When should care workers wash their hands to destroy bacteria? (3)
- Before putting on and removing disposable gloves
- Before and after treating wounds or caring for a sick or injured person.
- Before or after preparing or handling food.
What does PPE stand for?
Personal Protective Equipment
What can PPE prevent?
The transfer of bacteria from a care worker to service user and vice versa.
What are examples of PPE? (3)
- Face Masks
- Disposable gloves/ aprons
- Surgical garments and overshoes
When should a care worker wear disposable gloves? Why?
During and operation/ procedure
