Conscious, involuntary and unwanted thoughts was first explanation.

Now; Interruptive, salient, experienced mental events. this inlcudes positive intrusions but emphasizes on interuption.

the situation decides if it’s intrusive or not.

Uncertain events (obsessive compulsive)

Internal cues’ mood, physiology

Probability of intrusions increases with diminished cognitive control, like lack of sleep
