The European commission

What is the european commission?
A
- Puts forward new laws to be adopted by the parliament and council
- Guardian of the treaties to ensure all memeber states are implenting union law
- Respoonsible for the administration of the EU
- Each member state has one commissioner who heads a department
- A commissioner is appointed for 5 years but can be voted out

What is the european parliament?
A
- Standing committees to discuss proposals made by the commission to then report it to parliament
- Decides on international agreements
- Decides whether to admit new member states
- Reviews the commissions work programme and asks it to propose legislation

A
- The principle law making and decision making body of the EU
- Negotiates, amends, adopts laws put forward by the commission with eu parliament
- Ministers selected by the government of each member state are a part of eu council
